Botox Procedures - the Facts
Botox has become the latest thing in Sydney society and now it has become an integral part of grooming for individuals in Sydney.
Nevertheless I never fail to be amazed when I hear the stories surrounding the routine treatment.
I have outlined below a selection of the more myths which I come across everyday at Star Cosmetic Medicine, where I am employed as a physician.
Urban Legend Number 1: Botox can immobilize all my expressions!
We strongly recommend you review our #1 webpage for Sydney Botox ideas…
Underneath the skin of the face are about 60 muscles. These usually operate harmoniously, but from continued movement expression lines may appear. Too many injections of Botox have the effect of the facial musculature becoming slightly less expressive. The quantity injected by most physicians make you look ‘refreshed’, yet you will continue to look every bit as animated.
Thus by injecting the proper quantity of the wrinkle injection in just the right tissues you should have a reduction in any wrinkles without compromising facial expression.
Urban Legend Number 2: Botox is a deadly poison!
There is a little truth in this. Botulinum Toxin Type A is the proper medical nomenclature. An overdose can result in a decrease in muscle tone and even may cause sickness.
Chemists have a famous saying that states ‘everything is poisonous - it all depends on the dose’. A large amount of any medicine will bring on sickness. Water can be a poison if you take too much.
Urban Legend Number 3: Botox injections hurt!
At Star Cosmetic Medicine the physician will use a needle smaller than a hair. Some people liken the shots to a bug bite. It certainly is not as sore as something like a vaccination.
Urban Legend Number 4: My face will be less sensitive!
Completely false. Botulinum medicine works principally on the neuromuscular junction, and not on the nerves of sensation. Just the ability to relax muscles is affected by Botox injections.
Urban Legend Number 5. Once you start Botox you need to continue or else you will develop worse fine lines and wrinkles than ever!
This is also untrue.
The first treatment is effective for approximately 3 months. Any treatments after the first one should be effective for a little longer. The wrinkles will gradually reform as the muscle recovers its normal function. Nevertheless they certainly will not be any deeper than when you began your treatment.
Even if you don’t have Botox injections ever again - those lines should be better than if you had not been treated. This is generally the case due to the fact your skin has had a ‘wrinkle holiday’ whilst the treatment was effective.
